5 Perfect Breakfast Ideas for Losing Weight

Many of us only drink coffee in the morning with the first meal at noon or even later. However, eating breakfast can help with weight loss. Let’s look at why as well as some ideas for healthy breakfasts.

Why eat breakfast?

Our body produces many digestive enzymes to digest food, and most of them are produced in the first two hours after waking up! If no food is ingested during this time, the enzymes are broken down and are effectively "gone." If your first meal is at noon, your digestion will not work as well as if you had eaten earlier in the day. Your morning enzymes are supposed to process about 25 % of your food for the day. If that's not happening, your GI tract is already operating sub-optimally, and no amount of healthy lunch can fix that.

What to eat for breakfast

What we eat in the morning is the best-digested food. Therefore, breakfast should consist of foods that allow a long sense of satiety. Here are five examples.

Toast with cheese, egg, and avocado One ripe avocado crushed with a fork, a scrambled or sunny-side-up egg, and low-calorie cheese, all spread on whole-grain toast. This breakfast has about 300 calories and perfectly combines proteins, fats, and carbs.

Cottage cheese and nuts If you can tolerate dairy products, about 7 ounces of cottage cheese with real yogurt and a handful of almonds or whole wheat flakes without sugar would be a good breakfast. It is a higher-calorie breakfast (up to 400 calories), but it will fill you up until at least lunchtime.

Meat breakfast There are some people for whom a meal without meat is not a meal. They can have scrambled eggs and turkey ham for breakfast, or turkey sandwiches on whole-grain bread. This way you can balance protein, fat, and carbohydrates without consuming too many calories (one turkey sandwich with lettuce on grain bread and no other fats maybe only 200–250 calories.).

Fish breakfast Whole-grain toast with lightly salted salmon, low-fat melted cheese, and a slice of tomato is a great option for a morning meal. The Omega-3, Omega-6, and B vitamins in this meal are the perfect way to start the day and energize your body.

Vegetarian breakfast If you don't eat animal products, you can eat something like vegetarian pancakes for breakfast. You can use zucchini, carrot, beet, and more. Make sure to use a little vegetable oil when cooking so that fats get into the body too. You can also make the pancakes ahead of time for the week and freeze them . Then, defrost what you will eat each morning.
